FREEPORT, Bahamas (AP) -- Shay Doron had 23 points and seven assists to help No. 1 Maryland rout Mississippi 110-79 on Saturday night in the Junkanoo Jam title game.
Laura Harper scored 19 points and Crystal Langhorne had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the defending NCAA champion Terrapins (7-0). Doron was selected the tournament MVP."I thought we did a tremendous job again of being unselfish," Maryland coach Brenda Frese said. "Our intensity was there."Shawn Goff led Mississippi (5-2) with 18 points, Alliesha Easley had 15 and Shantell Black 13."They just took it to us," Rebels coach Carol Ross said. "They played like the No. 1 team. ... Physically, they were clearly better than us."Maryland, which broke the tournament record with the 110-point game, is off to its best since the 1991-92 team started 9-0.The Terrapins scored the first nine points and led 50-25 with 3:08 to play in the first half. Doron made seven of eight shots before halftime and finished 9-for-11 from the field."Mentally, when you can come out and have the kind of starts we've had as of late, you're definitely going to get in their heads," Frese said. "That's the sign of a great team."
