EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Shavonte Zellous made a 3-pointer with 1.8
seconds left to send Pittsburgh to a 71-70 victory against Boise
State in the championship game of the Oregon Thanksgiving
Tournament at McArthur Court on Saturday.
Zellous finished with 31 points and scored the final nine of the
game for the Panthers, including a 3-pointer to tie it 68-68 with
53 seconds left.
Tasha Harris put the Broncos back up, 70-68, with a pair of free
throws, but on Pittsburgh's final possession, Jania Simms found
Zellous open on the 3-point line, and the guard drained the game
Zellous was 12-for-23 from the field in the game and made all
three of her 3-point tries.
Xenia Stewart added 14 points for the Panthers, who rallied from
an 11-point halftime deficit to improve to 6-0, matching the best
start in school history.
Michelle Hessing led Boise State with 22 points, including 10 in
the first half which helped the Broncos jump out to a 22-7 lead by
the 12:05 mark, and 38-27 by the break.
But the Panthers came back in the second half and Zellous capped
a 9-0 Panthers' run with a jumper at the 11:41 mark to put them up
45-44. Six lead changes and five ties followed.
