Adair's double-double lifts George Washington to win

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jessica Adair had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Kimberly Beck added 18 points to lead George Washington (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 21 AP) past Villanova 73-47 Wednesday night.

Kenan Cole added 13 points and Sarah-Jo Lawrence had 10 points for George Washington (6-1).

Lisa Karcic and Tia Grant each scored 10 points and Jackie Adamshick had 13 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (3-4). Villanova struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting just 26 percent from the field (13-for-50). The Wildcats hit just 4 of 22 3-point attempts, going 1-for-12 in the first half.

After Villanova pulled within eight at 46-38 early in the second half, the Colonials answered with 12 straight points for a 58-38 lead and were never threatened afterward.

The Colonials took a 37-20 halftime lead on 52 percent shooting, with three players hitting double figures. They used a 16-6 run to take a 20-10 lead midway through the half. After the Wildcats pulled within five at 20-15, the Colonials pulled away with 13-3 spurt.

The Colonials' start to the season matches their best since 1994-95, when they also went 6-1.
