Texas dominates, holding Southern to 7 first-half points

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Aubrey Cook scored 15 points and Texas (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, No. 22 AP) only allowed a school-record low seven points in the first
half of a 71-23 victory over Southern on Thursday night.

Texas (6-1), which scored 30 points off turnovers, held Southern
to two fewer points than Rice scored in the first half of its game
against the Longhorns in 1990.

Texas is off to its best start since the 2003-04 season when it
began 7-0. Tiffany Jackson had 11 points for the Longhorns, who had
11 players score.

Southern (0-5) shot just 24 percent and committed 32 turnovers.
Deidra Jackson led the Jaguars with 10 points.

Southern rarely crossed half court with more than 10 seconds on
the shot clock, resulting in hurried shots and 14 turnovers in the
first half that led to 12 points for Texas.

The Longhorns led 27-7 at halftime.
