PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- Alyssa Nelson scored 17 points to lead
Montana State past Washington State 70-64 Thursday night.
The Bobcats improved to 3-3 to equal their total wins of last
season, when they were 3-23.
Nakejia Kelly led Washington State (1-5) with 11 points.
The Cougars, who have put together 10 consecutive losing
seasons, have lost three games in a row. They are 0-4 against
Montana State since winning in 1989.
Washington State trailed from the first basket, but pulled
within one point three times in the second half.
WSU's Dani Montgomery sank two free throws with 2:25 left to
narrow Montana State's lead to 61-60, but Nubia Garcia hit six
consecutive free throws down the stretch for the Bobcats. Garcia
finished with 14 points and four steals. Erica Perry added 13
points, and Krislyn Wallace had 12 points and six rebounds.
Kate Benz had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars.
Ebonee Coates totaled 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals and
two blocked shots.
Montana State shot 46 percent from the field, compared to 33
percent for WSU, which trailed 30-21 at halftime.
The Bobcats had 25 turnovers, three more than WSU.
