BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) -- Laura Thomas scored 18 points, including a
layup with five seconds remaining, to lift Portland to a 63-62
victory over Montana State on Monday.
Montana State (3-4) set up a play with 2.9 seconds left, but
couldn't get a shot off.
Portland (5-4) pulled away from a 34-30 halftime lead to take a
42-34 lead on a basket by Rachel Warren with 16:02 left.
Montana State chipped away at the lead and two free throws by
Alyssa Nelson with 1:03 remaining gave the Bobcats their first lead
of the second half.
Montana State jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first six
minutes, but Portland answered with a 22-5 run to take a 26-20 lead
with 5:34 left in the half on a 3-pointer by Laiken Dollente.
Allyson Sievers added 15 points for the Pilots. Thomas also led
Portland with 11 rebounds.
Nelson led the Bobcats with 14 points and eight rebounds,
followed by Nubia Garcia with 11 points. Krislyn Wallace had 10
rebounds to help Montana State to a 43-37 rebounding advantage.
Portland shot 43.3 percent from the field to 33.3 percent for
the Bobcats, who made just 3-of-18 from 3-point range.
