Texas hands Pan American sixth-straight loss

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Erika Arriaran scored 19 points and No. 22 Texas beat Texas-Pan American 75-44 on Wednesday night.

Tiffany Jackson added 21 points and Ashley Lindsey scored 15 points to pace Texas, which blocked a season-high 10 shots.

The backcourt duo of Arriaran and Carla Cortijo jump-started the Longhorns, who took advantage of a lackluster Lady Broncs start to go up 11-0. But Texas-Pan American (3-7) scored seven unanswered points to cut into the lead.

Texas' defense, ranked eighth nationally, stalled the Lady Broncs over the next four minutes and went on a 12-0 run to go up 23-7. The Longhorns ended the contest with 11 steals and had 22 points off 24 turnovers by the Lady Broncs.

Despite shooting 37.5 percent for the half, Texas-Pan American went on a 9-3 run over the final 3:50 to cut its halftime deficit to 10 points.

Arriaran hit 5-of-7 3-pointers in the game.

LaKeisha Gray led the Lady Broncs with 15 points. But Texas-Pan American had trouble getting shots up over the Longhorns, who led by 20 points for most of the second half.

For the second year in a row the Longhorns (7-1) will face No. 4 Duke and No. 6 Tennessee in consecutive games. Texas travels to Durham, N.C., on Sunday.
