LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Andrea Verdegan had 15 points, including four free throws in the final 19 seconds, as South Dakota State blew a 20-point halftime lead Wednesday but hung on to defeat Kansas 53-48.

South Dakota State (6-2) led 37-17 at halftime but made only three field goals and had 16 turnovers in the second half. That allowed Kansas (4-3) to come all of the way back and tie the game 45-45 on a 3-pointer by Kelly Kohn with 2:50 to play.

The basket capped a 28-8 second-half run for Kansas, but a 3-pointer by Megan Vogel on South Dakota State's next posession put the Jackrabbits back on top.

LaChelda Jacobs, who had a career-high 17 points for Kansas, had a jumper blocked with 21 seconds left that would have tied the game at 48-48. The Jayhawks were forced to foul Verdegan, who hit all four of her free-throw attempts down the stretch.

Kohn had 16 points and four of Kansas' 14 steals.

The Jackrabbits turned the ball over 29 times, and had more turnovers in the second half than they had shot attempts.

Vogel finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds for South Dakota State.
