    DePaul downs rival Northwestern for seventh straight win

    CHICAGO (AP) -- Caprice Smith had 17 points and nine rebounds and DePaul (No. 18 ESPN/USA Today; No. 17 AP) defeated Northwestern 74-66 Wednesday, the Blue Demons' seventh straight win.

    Freshman China Threatt also had 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting in her first career start for the Blue Demons, while Allie Quigley added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists.

    Sara Stutz had 15 points and four assists for the Wildcats, who dropped their third consecutive game. A.J. Glasauer and Julie Bielawski each added 12 for Northwestern, while Kristin Cartwright had 11 and Nadia Bibbs added seven assists and seven rebounds.

    DePaul got out to an 18-5 lead as Northwestern missed 13 of its first 15 shots. A 11-2 run by the Blue Demons extended their lead to 29-11 with 6:12 left in the first half. But the Wildcats finished the first half on a 14-6 run, cutting DePaul's lead to 35-28 at halftime.

    Northwestern opened the second half with a 16-4 run to take its first lead of the game at 44-39 with 13:57 left, but DePaul responded with a 12-0 run to take a 54-46 lead with 11:15 remaining. A late 7-0 run by Northwestern drew the Wildcats to 65-60, but they couldn't come any closer.
