LSU overwhelms McNeese State, home win streak at 38

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Sylvia Fowles didn't waste any time getting her game going.

Fowles scored 18 of her 20 points in the first half and No. 7 LSU overwhelmed McNeese State 83-28 on Wednesday to extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 38 games.

Quianna Chaney added 14 points for the Lady Tigers (12-1).

"Sylvia established herself on the offensive end of the floor," coach Pokey Chatman said. "Then, it was nice to see Quianna continue her hot shooting. Overall, I thought it was a good performance going into the break."

Fowles, who also had nine rebounds, made all seven of her field goal attempts.

LSU held the Cowgirls (2-9) to 21 percent shooting from the field, and McNeese State committed 29 turnovers, leading to 37 LSU points.

"LSU has a lot of weapons," McNeese coach Carol Sensley said. "They are a very well-balanced team that always plays hard. We have been battling and struggling trying to get people to step up."

Courtnee Hollins led McNeese State with 11 points. Shonice Sprouse, the Cowgirls' top scorer, had three.

LSU, which led 38-9 at the half, played without point guard Erica White, who was serving a one-game suspension.

"Erica's situation will be evaluated after the Christmas break," Chatman said. "The suspension was just a coach's decision. She was just behaving in a way not befitting Lady Tigers basketball."
