MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- Led by the scoring of sophomore Mandy
Morales, Montana defeated Canisius 83-46 on Thursday and advanced
to the championship game of the annual Lady Griz Holiday Classic.
The victory, Montana's eighth in a row, lifted the Lady Griz to
11-1. Canisius of New York dropped to 7-5.
Montana is scheduled to play 9-2 Wyoming on Friday. Wyoming
defeated Idaho 68-45 in the tournament's other semifinal game
Montana jumped to a 13-0 lead over Canisius and never trailed.
The Golden Griffins rallied to put the score at 27-24 when
Brittane Russell connected on a 3-pointer, with 6:48 left in the
first half, but the Lady Griz led 47-30 at halftime.
Montana shot 47.1 percent in the first half, had a 28-20
rebounding advantage and held Canisius's shooting to 32.4 percent.
Morales, four-time Big Sky Conference player of the week,
finished with a game-high 19 points, adding seven assists and five
Russell led Canisius with 16 points and eight rebounds.
