LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Angel McCoughtry scored a school-record 41 points and had 12 rebounds for Louisville (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 15 AP) in a 93-75 win over Eastern Illinois on Friday night.
McCoughtry, a 6-foot-1 sophomore forward, broke the mark of 40 points set by Jodie Martin against Cincinnati on Jan. 2, 1994. McCoughtry was 14-of-26 from the field and 13-of-16 from the line. Her foul shots with 1:37 left gave her the record.Louisville (14-0), off to its best start in school history, got 15 points from Helen Johnson and 12 points and 12 rebounds from Jazz Covington.McCoughtry had 29 points in the first half."Actually, I had no idea I had that many points," McCoughtry said. "I don't look at stats. I just look at the scoreboard. I don't keep up with scoring at all."Ashley Thomas led Eastern Illinois (5-8) with 19 points and seven rebounds. Jessica Huffman added 12 points, and Rachel Galligan and Ellen Canale added 10 points each.
