MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- Sophomore Mandy Morales scored 30 points and was named MVP Friday as the University of Montana defeated Wyoming 79-72 and won the Lady Griz Holiday Classic championship.

Morales averaged 24.5 points, 6.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in Montana's two victories at the basketball tournament, the first a win over Canisius, 83-46. Junior Johanna Closson, who had 12 points and eight rebounds against the Cowgirls, averaged 10.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the two games, bringing her all-tournament honors.

Montana improved to 12-1 and Wyoming dropped to 9-3.

Wyomings Justyna Podziemska and Hanna Zavecz joined the all-tournament team. Podziemska had 26 points in the championship game and Zavecz 22 points, plus eight assists.

Canisiuss Brittane Russell and Idahos Katie Madison rounded out the all-tournament team.

The Cowgirls controlled play Friday for most of the first half, shooting 41.4 percent and taking a 36-31 lead into the half.

Montana still was down, 40-35, when a basket inside by sophomore Tamara Guardipee sparked a game-deciding 17-2 run over the next 4:08, putting the Lady Griz up 10, 52-42.

On five occasions Wyoming trimmed the lead to 4 points. Four times, Montana responded with a 3-pointer.
