SEATTLE (AP) -- Cameo Hicks had 18 points and Washington held
Southern California scoreless for more than 10 minutes on the way
to a 76-60 victory Friday.
Washington (10-4, 3-0), playing its Pac-10 home opener, won its
seventh in a row and extended its home winning streak to 10 games
dating back to last season.
Hicks, the Pac-10's fourth-leading scorer with 18.2 points per
game, outshone the third-leading scorer, Trojan Shay Murphy. Hicks
went 4-of-5 on three-pointers despite missing seven of her eight
shots from inside the arc. Emily Florence had a season-high 11
rebounds and matched her season-best eight points.
Murphy had 17 points for Southern Cal (6-7, 0-3), which remains
winless in conference play after being ranked 22nd in the AP
preseason poll. She missed 10 of 15 shots against the Huskies'
relentless match-up zone.
Andrea Plouffe, who had 11 points, nailed three straight jumpers
to give Washington a 6-2 lead. The Huskies missed 16 of their next
17 shots and the Trojans went ahead 11-10.
Then Southern California went scoreless for 10:11 as Washington
opened up 31-11 lead following a combined 21-0 run after Hicks'
second 3-pointer. Senior guard Erica Schelly sparked the run off
the bench by scoring eight straight points -- including a pair of
3-point plays. In two minutes, the senior guard logged her
career-high in points, bettering a seven-point effort as a
sophomore at Michigan.
The Huskies, who forced 17 turnovers, led 40-19 at halftime.
Washington's biggest lead was 26 points at 51-25. The closest the
Trojans got after that was the final score.
Washington made its first 15 free throws and went 23-of-29 from
The Huskies, the Pac-10's top offensive-rebounding team, had 26
offensive rebounds -- 50 total. Southern Cal, tops in rebounding at
42 per game, managed just 35.
