No. 16 George Washington coasts past San Diego State

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Kimberly Beck and Kenan Cole scored 13 points
apiece as George Washington (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today; No. 17 AP) easily defeated San Diego State
76-42 in the Surf 'N Slam championship game on Saturday.

George Washington (11-2) broke the game open by outscoring the
Aztecs 30-6 in the final 12 minutes of the first half to take a
39-17 halftime lead. The Colonials shot 59.1 percent from the field
in the half compared to 27.3 percent for the Aztecs, who also
committed 16 turnovers.

San Diego State (7-4) had a tough time solving George
Washington's zone defense, which pressured the Aztecs into shooting
25 percent overall with 21 turnovers.

The Colonials, who won a tournament title for the first time
since 1998, are off to their best start since 1995.

Beck, who also had six assists, was named the tournament MVP and
was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Sarah-Jo
Lawrence, who had nine points.

Jennifer Layton led the Aztecs with eight points and was an
all-tournament pick.
