AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Kiera Hardy scored 22 of her 27 points in
the second half to lead Nebraska to a 79-75 win over Texas
Wednesday night in the conference opener for both teams.
The Cornhuskers (13-2, 1-0 Big 12) couldn't contain Tiffany
Jackson, who finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds. But they
defended the rest of the Longhorns well enough down the stretch to
overcome a double-digit Texas lead.
Kelsey Griffin scored 10 of her 21 points during the first half
where both teams shot 42 percent. Each team had as much as a
five-point lead in the half, which ended with Texas up 34-30.
A 3-pointer from Chelsea Aubry with 5:35 left gave the
Cornhuskers a 63-62 lead -- their first since they were up 15-14
with 12 minutes to play in the first -- and they never gave it up.
Hardy hit a 3-pointer with 1:15 left to give Nebraska a 74-70
lead. Texas (10-4, 0-1) cut it to one point several times. But late
free throws from the Cornhuskers kept them on top.
