BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) -- Phynique Allen scored 18 points and Joanna
Chadd hit a jumper with 21 seconds remaining to seal Eastern
Washington's 69-66 victory over Montana State Thursday night in the
Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.
Montana State (5-8, 0-1 Big Sky) shot 49 percent from the field
in the first half in building a 45-34 lead. But the Bobcats made
just 5-of-28 shots in the second half as EWU rallied.
The Bobcats built their largest lead of the game at 49-36 on a
layup by Krislyn Wallace with 18:16 remaining.
But the Eagles (6-8, 1-0) responded with a 12-0 run to pull to
49-48 with 12:01 remaining.
The Bobcats re-established a 53-48 advantage before a 3-pointer
by Chadd with 3:59 remaining gave the Eagles a 64-62 lead.
With the score tied at 64, Ashley Knight hit a 3-pointer to push
the EWU lead to 67-64. MSU's Erica Perry hit a shot with a toe on
the 3-point line to pull the Bobcats to 67-66 with 53 seconds left.
Whitney Connolly came off the bench to lead Montana State with
18 points. Rebecca Mercer added 12 points and Perry finished with
Knight added 12 points for EWU.
