Montana 85, Portland State 67

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- Sophomore guards Mandy Morales and Sonya
Rogers combined to score 58 points Thursday in Montana's 85-67
victory over Portland State in the Big Sky Conference opener for
both teams.

Morales had 31 points, nine rebounds and eight assists -- her
fourth game this season with at least 30 points. Rogers added a
career-high 27 points, including a 5-of-7 effort from 3-point range
as Montana (13-1, 1-0 Big Sky) won its 10th consecutive game.

Portland State (4-10, 0-1) led 19-18 midway through the tight
first half, but sophomore Tamara Guardipee scored inside for the
Lady Griz and Rogers hit a 3-pointer to push the lead to 23-19.

Montana extended its lead to 44-30 by halftime. Rogers and
Morales scored 33 of UM's 44 first-half points.

The Lady Griz opened the second half on a 7-2 run to take a
51-32 lead with 17:37 to play, but the Vikings answered with an
11-2 run over the next 3:26 to pull within 53-43 on an inside
basket by Claire Faucher.

Montana went on a 15-2 run -- including seven points by Morales,
a steal and a layup by Laura Cote and 3-pointers by Rogers and
Britney Lohman -- to take a 68-45 lead. Portland State could get no
closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

Guardipee finished with 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds
for Montana.

Kelsey Kahle led Portland State with 18 points and seven
rebounds, followed by Brianna Thompson with 10 points.
