PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Kia Vaughn scored 12 of her 16 points in the final 10 minutes and Rutgers closed with a 25-4 run in a 63-39 victory over No. 22 Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Essence Carson had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Matee Ajavon added 15 points for the Scarlet Knights (7-5, 2-1 Big East).
Shavonte Zellous scored 16 points to lead the Panthers (12-2, 0-1), who closed within 38-35 on a jumper by Xenia Stewart with 12:43 to play.
Then it was all Rutgers and Vaughn, who finished 7-of-12 from the field in helping the defending Big East Conference champions win their second straight and fifth in six games.
No other Pittsburgh player scored in double figures. Mercedes Walker had 11 rebounds.
Rutgers shot 52 percent from the field and held Pittsburgh to 30 percent shooting, including 6-of-25 from the field in the second half.
