AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Lyndsey Medders scored 23 points and had six assists to lead Iowa State past Texas (No. 24 ESPN/USA Today; No. 22 AP) 67-56 Thursday.
Toccara Ross added 15 points -- including 9-of-11 free throws -- for the Cyclones (14-4, 2-3 Big 12), who snapped a three-game losing streak.Iowa State held Tiffany Jackson, the Longhorns' leading scorer, to seven points -- 12 below her average.Medders scored 15 in the second half, hitting a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired to stop a Texas run. She made four 3-pointers in the game.Iowa State went on an 18-5 run in the game's first nine minutes and never relinquished the lead. The Cyclones led by 12 at halftime and didn't let Texas (13-5, 2-2) get within six the rest of the way.Texas (13-5, 2-2) made a couple of runs in the second half, but poor shooting doomed its chances for a comeback. The Longhorns shot 25 percent in the opening half and 33 percent for the game.Freshman Carla Cortigo led the Longhorns with 12 points.The game was delayed by a day because Texas was unable to make its original flight from Austin due to bad weather.
