    Alexis' double-double lifts James Madison over VCU

    RICHMOND, Va. -- Meredith Alexis had 26 points and 13 rebounds, and Tamera Young added 21 points, lifting James Madison (unranked ESPN/USA Today, No. 25 AP) to a 76-63 victory over Virginia Commonwealth on Thursday.

    Alexis had 16 points in the first half and Young had 11 for the Dukes (21-2, 12-0 Colonial Athletic Association), who shot 56 percent in taking a 41-23 lead at halftime. Andrea Benvenuto had 14 assists.

    Krystal Vaughn led the Rams (11-11, 4-8) with 17 points and Michele Cosel had 11. Virginia Commonwealth never got closer than 11 in the second half.

    Leading 22-17 with 6:20 left in the first half, the Dukes went on a 19-6 run to close out the half. Alexis started the run with a jumper and had six points in the burst, while Young added five and Benvenuto assisted on six of the baskets.

    James Madison outscored the Rams 50-28 in the paint and 18-6 on the fast break.
