BERKELEY, Calif. -- Devanei Hampton scored 26 and Ashley Walker had 25 as No. 20 California got back on track by beating Washington State 72-45 at Haas Pavilion on Saturday.
Cal (19-6, 9-6) had blown a 19-point lead with 13:52 remaining against Washington on Thursday, but sophomore post players Hampton and Walker combined to outscore the entire Washington State team in a tip-to-horn win. Colleen Betteridge led Washington State (5-20, 1-14) with 11 points.
The Cougars shot just 28 percent, but did make four of their first six 3-pointers to keep the game close for a while. In addition, Washington State was outrebounded 48-37, and took only 14 free throws to Cal's 34.
It was the 14th straight loss for the Cougars, who took the first game of the Pac-10 season against Oregon State Dec. 21, but haven't won since. In a pair of lopsided losses in the Bay Area trip, Washington State was beaten by an average margin of 27.5 points a game.
It was the second time this season that both Walker and Hampton had double-doubles -- it was Walker's ninth of the season, and Hampton's sixth.
