Walker grabs 23 rebounds as Cal rallies to beat Fresno St.

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- Ashley Walker had 31 points and a career-high 23 rebounds in No. 13 California's 83-79 victory over Fresno State on Saturday in both schools' season opener.

Alexis Gray-Lawson scored 15 points and Kelsey Adrian had 13 for the Golden Bears, who finished the game with an 11-3 rally. Gray-Lawson, the 2006 Pac-10 player of the year who missed last season's final 23 games with a knee injury, scored the Bears' final six points in her first game since Dec. 10, 2006.

Walker, a junior all-conference forward who led the Pac-10 in rebounding last season, hit the go-ahead jumper with 1:33 to play, giving the Golden Bears their first lead of the second half. After Gray-Lawson hit a layup to put Cal up 79-76 with 1:18 left, Bailey Amundsen tied it with a 3-pointer for Fresno State.

But Gray-Lawson hit a 3-pointer with 37 seconds to play, and Fresno State's Emma Andrews missed a fastbreak layup. Gray-Lawson hit a final free throw to finish off Cal's first game since learning Pac-10 player of the year Devanei Hampton could miss the first six weeks of the season after arthroscopic knee surgery.

Tierre Wilson, Fresno State's only returning starter, scored 22 points and Amundsen had 18 for the Bulldogs.
