Longhorns run visiting Lady Cardinals ragged in romp

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Freshman Kathleen Nash scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Texas past Lamar 94-35 on Thursday night.

The Longhorns (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today, No. 21 AP) used their new, up-tempo offense under first-year coach Gail Goestenkors to build a 51-15 lead by halftime against the Lady Cardinals.

Texas (2-0) was dominant in the low post, scoring 54 points in the paint.

Erneisha Bailey, Aubry Cook and Rachel Rentschler each scored 13 points for the Longhorns.

With the loss of standout forward Tiffany Jackson to the WNBA, the Longhorns have had more balance in their scoring in their first two games. Five players have reached double-digits in both games.

Ashley Lindsey paced Texas' defense with six blocks and Texas scored 25 points off Lamar's 25 turnovers. The Longhorns outrebounded Lamar 51-31 and scored 28 fast-break points.

Brittney Williams led Lamar (1-2) with 12 points.

Texas next plays at No. 1 Tennessee on Sunday. The Lady Vols have beaten the Longhorns by scores of 102-61 and 67-46 in the past two seasons.
