WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jessica Adair had 18 points and 11 rebounds and George Washington (No. 15 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) beat South Dakota State 65-60 on Friday night in the GW Thanksgiving Classic.

Sarah-Jo Lawrence, who scored 13 points, made four free throws in the final 25.6 seconds for the injury-plagued Colonials (4-1), who led 41-32 with 13:04 left. Kimberly Beck had 16 points and 10 assists for GW, and Antelia Parrish added 10 points.

Kristin Rotert came off the bench to score 15 points for South Dakota State. Maria Boever added 14 points, Ketty Cornemann had 13 and Andrea Verdegan had 12 for the Jackrabbits (4-1), who lost for just the second time in 20 games.

The Colonials played without senior forward Whitney Allen, who started the first four games. Allen broke the ring finger on her left (non-shooting) hand before regular-season play began.

Parrish, the team's leading scorer and rebounder after four games, went down in pain under the GW basket with 12:25 left. She has a sprained left ankle and is questionable for Saturday's game with Western Kentucky, according to a team spokesman.

Adair went down with 5:41 left, and was taken out of the game. But she returned and her basket gave the Colonials a 55-47 lead with 4:18 to go.

South Dakota State battled back, and a steal and basket by Verdegan pulled the Jackrabbits to 61-60 with 32.9 left.

Ashlea Muckenhirn of South Dakota State fouled Lawrence with 25 seconds left, and Lawrence made two free throws to give GW a 63-60 lead.

The visitors shot an air ball, and Lawrence was fouled on the rebound. She hit two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to complete the scoring.
