No. 25 Texas smacks Sam Houston State behind Raven

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Brittainey Raven had 19 points and a career-high seven assists to lead Texas (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, No. 24 AP) to a 91-41 victory over Sam Houston State on Sunday.

Earnesia Williams and Ashley Lindsey each added 12 points and six rebounds in Texas' (6-2) fourth-straight win.

Whitney Smith and Lydia Gonzales scored 12 points apiece for Sam Houston State (1-7).

Things didn't start well for the Longhorns but didn't stay that way long.

Williams was whistled for a traveling violation after the tipoff and the Bearkats scored first on LaToya Bennett's layup.

Texas went on a 23-0 run for the next 8:07, and later added a 16-0 run that lasted 6:32 as the Longhorns dominated in the low post and in transition to lead 39-14 at halftime.

Sam Houston State's 14 first-half points tied for the fifth lowest score the Longhorns have allowed in a half.

Texas outscored the Bearkats 52-27 in the second half.

The Longhorns had a season-high 17 steals and scored 33 points off 23 Bearkat turnovers. Texas outrebounded Sam Houston State 51-29 and scored 52 points in the paint.
