Sherwood's 20 spark No. 17 Vanderbilt in rout of WKU

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Liz Sherwood scored 20 points to lead Vanderbilt to a 75-54 victory over Western Kentucky on Thursday night.

Jessica Mooney added 16 points and Jennifer Risper had 12 for the Commodores (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 20 AP), who shot 50.8 percent from the field for the game.

Crystal Kelly led Western Kentucky (6-3) with 15 points.

The Lady Toppers made only one field goal over the final 14:04 of the first half and had only three during a span of 18:28. Western Kentucky shot a season-low 30.8 percent for the game.

Vanderbilt (8-2) recorded nine blocked shots and 17 steals.

The Commodores broke the game open with a 15-4 to start the second half, taking a 50-30 lead with 16:01 left on a basket by Sherwood.

The lead grew to 63-34, the largest of the game, with 11:15 left on a steal and layup by Risper.
