No. 11 Aggies hold on, end Auburn's perfect start

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) -- Takia Starks scored 17 points and Texas A&M (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today, No. 12 AP) held off a second-half comeback by No. 14 Auburn to hand the Tigers their first loss, 62-60 Saturday night.

The Aggies (9-1) never lost a 39-28 halftime lead despite a pair of 7-0 runs by Auburn, the latter getting the Tigers within 57-56 on a basket by Sherell Hobbs with 3:17 remaining.

DeWanna Bonner missed a jumper that would have put Auburn ahead for the first time since the 11:09 mark of the first half, and Texas A&M's A'Quonesia Franklin hit a 3-pointer for a 60-56 lead with 1:35 remaining.

Texas A&M led 60-58 when Franklin missed a free throw with 51 seconds left, but Patrice Reado grabbed an offensive rebound for the Aggies. The Tigers (9-1) fouled Franklin again, and this time she made both free throws for a 62-58 lead with 30 seconds remaining.

Whitney Boddie, one of four Auburn players in double figures with 12 points, scored the final basket with four seconds left.

Jordan Greenleaf led the Tigers with 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Aggies trailed 17-11 when they went on a 19-2 run for a 30-19 lead with 5:24 left in the first half. The run featured three-point plays by Damitria Buchanan and Morenike Atunrase and another 3-pointer by Franklin, who was just 2-of-9 from the field but had five assists to go with eight points.

Danielle Gant scored 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting and led Texas A&M with nine rebounds.
