    Lavender's double-double sparks rout of Youngstown State

    COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Freshman center Jantel Lavender had 16 points and 10 rebounds and No. 18 Ohio State defeated Youngstown State 84-50 on Wednesday night.

    Marscilla Packer had 12 points and Ashlee Trebilcock and Star Allen had 11 for the Buckeyes (8-2).

    Jessica Schloemp scored 12 and Kelsey Gurganus and Heather Karner put up 10 each for the Penguins, who lost their third straight.

    Ohio State outscored the Penguins (5-6) by 22 in the second half for its third straight win and fourth of the season by at least 30 points.

    Lavender paced the Buckeyes to a 37-25 halftime lead with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor. Trebilcock hit one of Ohio State's two 3-pointers in the half and had eight points to help Ohio State overcome an early deficit.

    Youngstown State was ahead 13-9 with 13:30 left in the first half before Packer hit a 3-pointer to spark a 12-0 streak over the next three minutes, a run that was aided by three steals.

    Ohio State finished the game with 28 points off turnovers compared to eight for Youngstown State. The Buckeyes hit 32-of-57 field goals (56 percent) while the Penguins were 20-of-60 (33 percent).
