Starks steps up from long range for No. 12 A&M in triumph

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) -- Takia Starks scored 23 points, including a key pair of back-to-back 3-pointers, and had 11 rebounds to help lead Texas A&M to a 74-65 victory over North Carolina A&T on Sunday.

Starks scored six points in a span of 40 seconds and the Aggies (No. 12 ESPN/USA Today, No. 14 AP) rallied to regain the lead from North Carolina A&T at 55-54 with 7:07 left in the second half. A'Quonesia Franklin hit a layup and two free throws and Danielle Gant hit eight free throws down the stretch for Texas A&M (11-2).

North Carolina A&T (7-4) used a 15-3 run to start the second half and take a 47-45 lead with 10:12 left on a jumper by Amber Bland, who finished with 23 points.

Starks, who got 16 of her points in the first half, also had three steals and two blocked shots. Gant finished with 20 points, half of them on free throws, and nine rebounds. Franklin had 14 points.

Bland led North Carolina A&T. Ta'Wuana Cook had 15. Lonise Coulter scored 12 and Jaleesa Sams 11, all in the second half.
