NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Merideth Marsh tied a career high with five 3-pointers as No. 12 Vanderbilt opened the season with a 85-51 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday.
Sophomore Hannah Tuomi added 14 points, which matched her career high.
Marsh, Tuomi and Christina Wirth combined for Vanderbilt's first 38 points, including all 36 in the first half. Wirth, a senior, finished with 11.
Marsh, a junior, made her first 3-pointer eight seconds into the game. She later made three straight in a span of 1:19, which capped an 18-4 first-half Commodores run. She finished with 15 points.
Vanderbilt led 9-0 after 2:18 and never trailed.
Sophomore guard Jade Davis had a game-high 16 points for the Islanders. Junior guard Shaye Montgomery added 11.
