Vandy holds opponent to under 40 points for first time this season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Christina Wirth scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, to help Vanderbilt (No. 12 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) beat Eastern Kentucky 80-38 on Wednesday night.

The Commodores (3-0) opened the game with a 14-0 run, including six points by Hannah Tuomi, and led by at least 11 the rest of the way. She finished with 12 points.

Jessica Mooney added 11 and Jennifer Risper had nine points and eight rebounds.

Kayla Drake scored 14 points to lead Eastern Kentucky (2-1). She ended Vanderbilt's game-opening run with a 3-pointer.

Vanderbilt limited an opponent to fewer than 40 points for the first time since a 92-37 win over Lipscomb on Dec. 22, 2007.
