ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Danielle Gant scored 15 points and Takia Starks added 13 to help Texas A&M (No. 7 ESPN/USA Today, No. 12 AP) hold off Michigan 59-56 on Thursday night.
The Wolverines were trying for their first win over a ranked opponent since beating No. 12 Minnesota 57-47 on Feb. 29, 2004.Michigan had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Carly Benson's long 3-pointer bounced off the rim.Tyra White added 12 points for Texas A&M (3-0). Jessica Minnfield scored 14 points to lead Michigan (1-2) and Krista Phillips added 13.The Aggies got off to a slow start, shooting just 28 percent and letting Michigan build a 30-26 lead.Texas A&M went ahead for good on Starks' jumper with nine minutes to go.Michigan got within 57-56 with 13 seconds left, but Gant hit both ends of a one-and-one, forcing Benson's desperate last shot.
