Wirth, Marsh pitch in 16 each as Commodores pull away

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Christina Wirth and Merideth Marsh scored 16 points apiece and No. 12 Vanderbilt held off East Tennessee State for a 66-55 victory Friday night.

Hannah Tuomi added 13 points and 11 rebounds and Chanel Chisholm had 12 points while the Commodores (4-0) forced 27 turnovers.

East Tennessee State nearly erased a 16-point second-half deficit, making it 48-45 with 10:24 left. But Marsh made two of her five 3-pointers to help Vanderbilt pull away.

Siarre Evans led East Tennessee State (0-3) with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Latisha Belcher had 10 points.

Tuomi started an 11-0 run late in the first half to erase East Tennessee State's five-point lead.

The run came after East Tennessee State went up 19-14 on Tara Davis' steal and layup, Vanderbilt outscored the Bucs 22-4 over the final 11 minutes of the first half, taking advantage of 17 first-half turnovers.
