TUCSON, Ariz. -- Danielle Gant hit a clutch turnaround jumper with 1:26 left and had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Texas A&M (No. 5 ESPN/USA Today, No. 8 AP) to a 54-44 victory over Arizona on Tuesday night.

Gant took control in the lane with a jumper to give the Aggies (4-0) a 50-44 lead. Texas A&M connected on free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Arizona had trouble making shots, shooting 24 percent, but got hot late.

The Wildcats (3-2) closed within 48-44 on a Reiko Thomas jumper to conclude an 11-2 run.

Takia Starks added 10 points for the Aggies. Arizona was led by Thomas' 10 points.

Starks pushed A&M ahead by 12 after hitting a 16-foot jumper to spark an 8-0 run to go ahead 41-29.

Texas A&M's full-court press handcuffed Arizona for a 26-23 lead at halftime.

Arizona took a 9-4 lead on a Jhakia McDonald driving layup before the Wildcats made one field goal in the final 14 minutes.

The Aggies forced 13 straight misses during a 15-4 run to build a 19-13 lead.
