Wright scores 31 as Virginia survives Marquette in WBCA Classic

MILWAUKEE -- Monica Wright scored 31 points and Virginia (No. 15 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) rallied to beat Marquette 76-71 in the WBCA Classic on Saturday night.

Whitny Edwards had 13 points and Aisha Mohammed finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots for the Cavaliers (5-1).

Angel Robinson had 25 points and Krystal Ellis added 23 for the Golden Eagles (5-1), who shot 39.7 percent from the field. Robinson also had seven assists and three steals.

Ellis' 3-pointer with 15:37 left gave Marquette a 53-39 lead but Virginia responded with a 9-0 run. Wright's basket with 2:12 left gave the Cavaliers a 65-64 lead.

Robinson made a 3-pointer get the Golden Eagles within two with 21 seconds left and Edwards made three free throws down the stretch to help Virginia hold on.
