Taylor finds touch late to help Xavier escape

PHILADELPHIA -- Jerri Taylor scored eight of her 13 points late in the second half as Xavier (No. 21 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) rallied from a nine-point deficit, and the Musketeers remained undefeated in the Atlantic 10 with a 42-41 win over Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night.

Dee Dee Jernigan added 10 for Xavier (18-4, 6-0), and Ta'Shia Phillips scored all three of her points in the final minutes to help ensure the win. April Phillips finished with 11 rebounds and Trudy Reed grabbed 10.

Brittany Ford scored 17 points for Saint Joseph's (9-11, 1-4), which shot 18-for-69 (26 percent).

Despite their poor shooting, the Hawks trailed by a point, 21-20, at the break and built a 38-29 lead with 6:56 remaining in the second half.

But Xavier rallied behind two 3-pointers and a basket by Taylor, a field goal by Special Jennings, and a field goal and free throw by Ta'Shia Phillips before Saint Joe's ended a 6-minute scoring drought on a basket by Mariame Djouara with 22 seconds left.

The Hawks misfired on a pair of late jumpers and failed in the upset bid.
