MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Ashley Sweat scored 22 points and Kelsey Nelson had 14 points and 13 rebounds as Kansas State (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) defeated Colorado 72-60 on Saturday.
Kansas State used a 7-2 run to take a 49-35 lead midway through the second half. Colorado responded with a 12-2 run -- 10 by Spears -- to cut the deficit to four with 6:40 remaining, but a pair of free throws by Sweat ignited an 8-0 run that stopped Colorado's comeback.
Neither team could gain control of the game in the first half until a bucket by Gipson with about eight minutes left sparked a 13-3 run that gave the Wildcats a 30-22 advantage. Kansas State held the Buffaloes to just five points in the final 7:42 and led 35-27 at the half.
Marlies Gipson added 16 points for the Wildcats (21-4, 8-4 Big 12). Brittany Spears led the Buffaloes (11-13, 3-9) with 25 points and Kara Richards added 23.
