Longhorns allow just 16 first-half points in rout of Mavericks

AUSTIN, Texas -- Brittainey Raven had 17 points and six rebounds to lead Texas (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 15 AP) to an 84-41 rout of Texas-Arlington on Tuesday night.

The Longhorns (11-3) allowed just 16 points in taking a 31-point halftime lead and held the Mavericks to a 24.6 percent shooting from the field for the game.

Kathleen Nash finished with 16 points for Texas, while Erika Arriaran scored 11 and Ashley Gayle had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Kristen Nash contributed early in the second half for the Longhorns with six consecutive points and finished with her first career double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Longhorns opened the second half on a 20-12 run with Raven scoring seven points.

Meghan Nelson had 14 points for Texas-Arlington (5-8).

The Longhorns forced 20 turnovers and outscored the Mavericks 36-18 in the paint.
