WASHINGTON -- Little-used guard Gabi Minix drilled a 3-pointer in double overtime to give Marquette the lead, and the Golden Eagles held on to upset Georgetown (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 15 AP) 75-73 on Saturday.
Adria Crawford's two free throws put the Hoyas up 71-69 with 3:43 left, before Minix -- a freshman guard averaging 2.6 points -- hit an open 3 from the wing to give Marquette the lead.Angel Robinson hit three free throws down the stretch to seal the victory for the Golden Eagles (13-3, 1-2 Big East), snapping Georgetown's six-game winning streak.Five Marquette players finished in double figures, led by 19 points from Tatiyiana McMorris. Robinson added 18 points, while Courtney Weibel finished with 12.The Hoyas (13-4, 1-2), who have never beaten Marquette in six tries, were led by Sugar Rodgers' 26 points and 10 rebounds, though she fouled out with 1:59 left in the second overtime.Tia Magee had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Hoyas before fouling out in regulation.Georgetown appeared to be in control both in regulation and overtime, before allowing the Golden Eagles to rally.The Hoyas led 54-47 with 7:54 remaining, but Marquette fought back, keyed by Weibel's rainbow 3 from the top of the key with 50 seconds left. It was Georgetown that needed a last-second drive from Rubylee Wright with 3.2 seconds left to force overtime tied at 62.In the first overtime, Rodgers scored four quick points to give Georgetown a 69-65 lead with 2:50 remaining, but the Hoyas went cold and Robinson drew the Golden Eagles by scoring four points in the final 1:56.Trailing 74-73 with 1:43 left in the second overtime, Georgetown had plenty of time to take the lead, but the offense struggled with Rodgers on the bench. Alexa Roche and Wright both missed good looks in the final 48 seconds.
