SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Elashier Hall had 16 points, Carmen Tyson-Thomas and Erica Morrow each added 15, and Syracuse (No. 23 AP) overcame a shaky start to beat Seton Hall 75-50 Saturday.Syracuse (13-2, 1-1 Big East) defeated Seton Hall (7-9, 0-3) for the third straight time, rebounding from a loss Tuesday to No. 15 Georgetown in its conference opener.In its 80-62 loss to the Hoyas, Syracuse committed a season-high 31 turnovers -- 21 in the first half -- and trailed by double digits the entire second half.The Orange seemed intent on following the same pattern against Seton Hall. Just over six minutes in, the score was tied 5-5 as the teams combined to commit 19 turnovers and shoot 2 for 13.After Jasmine Crew hit a jumper to put the Pirates up 13-12 midway through the half, the Orange regrouped and methodically took control. Syracuse closed the half with a 27-8 rush despite the loss of 6-foot-4 center Kayla Alexander, who picked up three fouls in the first seven minutes and sat out most of the rest of the game.Redshirt freshman forward Shakeya Leary played an inspired game in her place, finishing with 13 points to match a career high, while grabbing 19 rebounds and blocking seven shots in 29 minutes, all career highs. Iasia Hemingway had 10 points and 14 rebounds, her fifth double-double of the season.Alexander, Syracuse's leading scorer at nearly 16 points a game, finished with a season-low two points, on free throws, in nine minutes.Jazzmine Johnson had 10 points, freshman guard Ka-Deidre Simmons finished with eight points, and Crew and Kashmere Joseph each had six for Seton Hall. Kandice Green, who was averaging a team-high 11.9 points and 8.9 rebounds, was 0 for 6 shooting and finished with four points and seven rebounds.Tyson-Thomas made three 3-pointers and two free throws to key the game-changing surge, her 3 from the left corner giving Syracuse a 39-21 halftime lead. Syracuse ended the half shooting 42.4 percent and pressed often in limiting the Pirates to 16.7 percent (5 of 30).The Orange committed just six turnovers in the second half and extended their lead to as many as 31, 69-38, on Leary's layup with just over five minutes left.
