Arkansas tops Mississippi St. after fall hospitalizes Ashley Daniels

    Associated Press

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Sarah Watkins scored 21 points to lead Arkansas (No. 25 AP) to a 61-56 victory over Mississippi State on Sunday.

Arkansas (14-1, 2-0 SEC) shot 37.5 percent (21 of 56) from the floor and hit 16 of 24 free throws, including four clutch ones down the stretch.

Trailing by double digits late in the second half, Mississippi State (8-6, 0-2) closed the deficit to three points with just under a minute remaining. C'eira Ricketts free throws put the Razorbacks back up 59-54.

Porsha Porter hit a layup for the Bulldogs with 4.2 seconds left, but two free throws by Lyndsay Harris sealed the victory.

Arkansas junior Ashley Daniels left the arena on a stretcher after landing awkwardly late in the second half. Trainers say it is likely a concussion, and she was taken the hospital.

The Razorbacks led 30-17 at the half and never trailed in the second half.

Harris added 13 points while Rickets had 10 for Arkansas.

Katia May paced the Bulldogs with 12 points, and Diamber Johnson added 10 points.
