USC women lose for 3rd time in last 4 games

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Davellyn Whyte scored 19 points as Arizona defeated USC 84-74 on Saturday, sending the Trojans to their third loss in four games.

The Wildcats (17-10, 8-8 Pac-10), who have won four of their last five, and USC (16-11, 8-8) are tied for fourth in the Pac-10 standings with a week left in the regular season.

Five players scored in double figures for Arizona, which went 29 of 38 from the free-throw line and led by 20 with 5:34 remaining. Ify Ibekwe had 17 points and seven rebounds.

Briana Gilbreath led the Trojans with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Christina Marinacci added 15 points.

USC coach Michael Cooper was called for a technical foul with 14:04 remaining. Whyte made both free throws and scored on a layup to give Arizona a 54-43 cushion. The Trojans cut the lead to six with 40 seconds remaining but got no closer.
