TUCSON, Ariz. -- Davellyn Whyte scored 19 points as Arizona defeated USC 84-74 on Saturday, sending the Trojans to their third loss in four games.
The Wildcats (17-10, 8-8 Pac-10), who have won four of their last five, and USC (16-11, 8-8) are tied for fourth in the Pac-10 standings with a week left in the regular season.Five players scored in double figures for Arizona, which went 29 of 38 from the free-throw line and led by 20 with 5:34 remaining. Ify Ibekwe had 17 points and seven rebounds.Briana Gilbreath led the Trojans with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Christina Marinacci added 15 points.USC coach Michael Cooper was called for a technical foul with 14:04 remaining. Whyte made both free throws and scored on a layup to give Arizona a 54-43 cushion. The Trojans cut the lead to six with 40 seconds remaining but got no closer.
