PHILADELPHIA -- Khadijah Rushdan scored 20 points and April Sykes added 12 to help No. 15 Rutgers beat La Salle 61-48 on Saturday night.
The Scarlet Knights (3-0) had a rough shooting night, making just 35 percent from the field, but they did hit five 3-pointers.Rutgers held a 10-point halftime lead before La Salle cut its deficit to 51-45 on Alexis Scott's 3-pointer with 4:52 left. The Scarlet Knights then turned up their defense, holding the Explorers to just one point until Nadia Duncan hit a jumper at the buzzer.Rutgers made all six free throws during that final spurt to seal the win.Scott scored 18 to lead La Salle (1-3). It was the first meeting between the schools since 1983.
