Chassidy Fussell, Texas take first lead late, hold off Cal

HONOLULU -- Chassidy Fussell gave Texas its only lead of the game when she scored with 1:11 left Saturday to lift the Longhorns (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today, No. 24 AP) over California 61-60 in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.

Fussell finished with 15 points to pace Texas (4-1) to its fourth straight victory. Yvonne Anderson added 14 points and Ashleigh Fontenette 12. Ashley Gayle had 11 rebounds.

Layshia Clarendon led the Golden Bears (3-2) with 13 points. Linsday Sherbert had 11 and Reshanda Gray 10, giving her five straight double-digit games to open her collegiate career. Gennifer Brandon grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Bears used a 12-0 run for a 16-4 edge with 14:25 left in the half and led 30-24 at intermission.

California outrebounded Texas 40-31 but committed 23 turnovers to the Longhorns' 16.
