Griner sets mark vs. Duke
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Brittney Griner of Baylor set the NCAA tournament record for most blocks with her fifth blocked shot against Duke.
Griner came in with 26 blocked shots through her first three NCAA tournament games, trailing Alison Bales who set the mark with 30 blocked shots through six games in 2006 for Duke. Griner tied Bales with four blocks in the first half Monday night of the Memphis regional final.
The 6-foot-8 freshman set the mark by blocking Allison Vernerey's 12-foot jumper with 14:44 left in the second with Baylor trailing Duke 32-25. Griner also got the rebound.
Griner already had the single-season block record, coming into the game with 209.
