Yanks' Jorge Posada out to be with son

NEW YORK -- Jorge Posada was not at the Yankees-Red Sox game Wednesday night because he is with his 11-year-old son, who underwent surgery.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed Posada's absence.

With Posada out, Mark Teixeira played first base, a day after he got nailed in the knee by a 90-mph pitch from Jon Lester.

On Tuesday, Posada, replacing Teixeira, had three hits.

Posada's son, Jorge III, is undergoing another surgery for craniosynotosis, a birth defect in which the bones in a child's skull do not fuse correctly. Posada has expressed hope this could be the final surgery, which had been planned in advance.

Posada and his family have raised money for the condition through the Jorge Posada Foundation.
