Jordan Farmar to miss next 2 games

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Nets backup point guard Jordan Farmar will miss at least the next two games, head coach Avery Johnson announced before Monday night's win against the Denver Nuggets at the Prudential Center.

Farmar, who has a strained lower back, did not play in the Nets' last two games. Johnson said he will evaluated by team doctors Wednesday, and could have an MRI.

"We'll probably have some more news on him if and when we get an MRI and get the results," Johnson said. "But he's not gonna play any earlier than Friday."

Farmar said he initially started feeling pain in his lower back during warmups before last Friday's game against the Indiana Pacers.

The 24-year-old is averaging 9.5 points and 4.4 assists per game this season.

Johnson said that rookie Ben Uzoh will take Farmar's place in the rotation, but Uzoh is only expected to get about 10 minutes of playing time.

Johnson also said the team is expected to announce the signing of a player to a 10-day contract.

He declined to specify who that player is, although it's reportedly Orien Greene, a 28-year-old guard who plays for the NBA Developmental League's Utah Flash.

"That's where we are. We need to find some diamond in the rough," Johnson said. "This is independent of Jordan's injury. This is something that's been in the works for a while."

Johnson said that the player the Nets sign is expected to be at Tuesday's practice, and should be able to participate if he passes his physical.

Point guard Devin Harris (bruised shin) will play Wednesday night, Johnson said. The injury forced Harris to leave Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks in the fourth quarter.
