NEW YORK -- Brenton Butler scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half as Fordham defeated Sacred Heart 69-51 on Monday night, ending the longest losing streak in Division I at 22 games.
The victory is also the first for the Rams (1-1) under new coach Tom Pecora and their first since Dec. 8, 2009.
Chris Gaston had 17 rebounds and 12 points for Fordham, with six of his rebounds coming during a 13-2 run that ended with the Rams ahead 57-40 with 4:00 left in the game. Butler scored eight points during that run.
Butler hit 4 of his 7 3-pointers to move into fifth place on Fordham's career list with 180.
Shane Gibson had 11 points to lead the Pioneers (0-2), who trailed just 28-25 at the half after outshooting the Rams 44 percent (11 of 25) to 35 percent (10 of 27).
