WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Brandon Britt and Omar Prewitt scored 16 points each and, despite one tie early in the game, William & Mary led all the way to defeat Hofstra 79-74 on Wednesday night.

With balanced scoring from Britt and Prewitt, who had four 3-pointers, plus 15 points from Kyle Gaillard and 13 from Marcus Thornton, the Tribe (18-10, 10-5 Colonial Athletic Association) grew leads as large as 14 points midway through the second half.

Hofstra's Zeke Upshaw twice hit 3-pointers in the late going that pulled the Pride (8-22, 4-11) as close as three points. Upshaw finished with 28 points, his 20th straight in double figures. All seven of his field goals were 3-pointers, tying a school record for 3s in a game.

Hofstra was hampered by 37-percent shooting in the game. William & Mary sank 53.8 percent from the floor and outscored Hofstra 30-20 in the paint, 10-0 on fast breaks.
